1/21 8 West Hall Lodge

GV II

House. formerly north lodge to Whittington Hall (q.v.). probably 1890s by Paley and Austin, copying south lodge (q.v.) of 1830s by George Webster. Sandstone rubble with slate roof. One storey. East wall, facing drive. has one bay on each side of a central projection with steep gable. The windows are chamfered, with 2 lights divided by a transom. The central projection has a studded door with ornamental hinges in a chamfered surround with triangular head. Above is a blank square recess. The north wall facing the road has a glabled projection at the left which has a canted bay window with coping. The window has mullions and transoms. with 6 lights at the front and 2 lights to each canted side. To the right is a window of 2 lights divided by a transom. Further right is a cross window. Both have hoods. Chimney to right of gabled projection and on right-hand gable.
