KINGSTEIGNTON BERRY STREET, Kingsteignton SX 87 SE 5/113 Walls to the Fairwater
II
Walls to mill leat which runs parallel to the road in Berry Street. Probably C19 although the leat, known as the Fairwater, is of ancient origin. Stone rubble walls to the leat, access to the houses on the west side of Berry Street is via granite slabs across the leat. The origins of the watercourse may be medieval. In 1879 the ceremony of the Whitsuntide Ram Roast was still held and was thought to trace back to the annual cleaning of the Fairwater.
Whites Devonsire (1878-9).
