House. Early C19, probably a refashioning of an earlier house. Colourwashed plastered stone to ground floor level, stud walling to first floor level, slate mansard roof, gabled at ends; end stacks, axial stack. Single depth plan, 2 rooms wide with 2 principal heated front rooms, one on each side of a cross passage with a stair adjacent to the passage and a series of rear lean-tos and projections. A large lean-to at the left end was added as a kitchen in the 1870s (stack dismantled) and is now used for storage. The disposition of the stacks and documentation in the possession of the owner suggests that the origins of the house date back to the C17 although later remodelling has obscured or removed the earlier details. 2 storeys and attic. Almost symmetrical 3-bay front with a C20 glazed porch in the centre, 2-storey canted bays to left and right with small pane sash windows, the left hand bay slightly smaller than the right hand bay with fewer panes to the central sashes. Interior Numerous features of interest including joinery, local marble chimney- pieces, decorated plaster friezes, and a stick baluster stair with turned newels, a ramped handrail and a curved balustrade. One first floor C18 chimneypiece, complete with fire basket survives on the first floor. The house was formerly called Taverners.
