COFFINSWELL
Daccombe Mill

(Formerly listed as Daccombe Mill Cottage)

GV
II

Cottage. Circa late C17/early C18. Considerably altered and extended probably in C20. Rendered cob walls with some brick repairs. Hipped thatched roof which extends over lean-to at right end. Two rendered rubble stacks, one lateral at rear, the other projects from left-hand end of original house.

Originally two heated room plan, with gable end stack to left hand room and rear lateral stack to right hand room now one room with extension at either end. Two storeys. Asymmetrical two window front of mid C20 two-light casements with diamond leaded panes. Similar larger ground floor window in lean-to to right. Porch to left end of front has wood shingle roof, similar two-light window to others at front and C20 plank and glazed door in left side. C20 single storey addition set back from left end.

Interior: The lintels to both fireplaces appear to have been renewed in C20 and original staircase removed. The feature of most interest is the shallow wall cupboard to the right of the lateral fireplace. This appears to be C17 and is elaborately carved with a double arched opening; it is likely to have been re-used from another building. The roof trusses are probably C19 with straight principals which have lapped and pegged collars.
