II
House. Probably C18 origins, extended in the early C19 and again in the 1930s. Whitewashed plastered stone; thatched roof, hipped at left end, gabled at right end; 2 axial stacks, right end stack. The present plan is a single depth main range, 4 rooms wide with a 1930s front right wing at right angles to the main range. The original plan appears to have been a single depth 2 room plan house with a central entrance into a stair lobby and left and right rooms heated from end stacks. In the circa early C19 a 1 room plan extension was added at the left end and heated from an end stack. An unheated 1 room plan addition at the right end may be later in date, possibly from the period when the house was subdivided into cottages. In the 1930s the house was refenestrated and a single storey front right wing was added 2 storeys. Asymmetrical 5-window front with the eaves thatch eyebrowed over the 4 right hand windows. Approximately central front door with thatched porch canopy and half-glazed front door. To the left of the front door a single-storey rectangular bay with a thatched roof has a 4-pane sash window. Left hand ground floor window late C20, first floor window left an C18 or C19 2-light casement, 8 panes per light. The other windows are metal framed and date from the 1930s: 2-light transomed casements. Blocked doorway with timber lintel to the left of the bay window. The wing has an end stack and 2 C20 windows. The rear elevation, facing the road has various small C20 windows with shutters. Interior Rebuilt fireplaces to the 2 axial stacks, the right hand fireplace has a bread oven and a probably re-sited lintel with scroll stops, the same room has a rough-hewn crossbeam. The heated room to left of centre has a chamfered cross beam. Roofspace not throughly inspected but the pegged collar rafter trusses over the extreme left hand end appear to be early C19. Straight principals visible in the centre of the house upstairs suggest that the centre trusses may be C18. A conspicuously-sited thatched house of the region.
