CLYST ST GEORGE SX 98 NE 2/5 Marianne Pool Farmhouse -
- II
Farmhouse. C17, enlarged mainly in the C19. Roughcast cob on stone footings; hipped thatched roof. Formerly a 3-room, cross-passage plan house, extended at both ends with a C19 rear wing. The gabled porch marks the position of the passage; hall (to the right) heated by external rear lateral stack; inner-room heated by an axial (originally an end) stack; extended service end with internal end stack; present right-hand end stack a late-C19 insertion. All stacks with brick shafts. 2 storeys. Front: 6-window range with a well preserved set of C19 casements, mostly of 3 lights, all, except the 2 ground-floor windows to the left-hand side, with transoms, 2 panes per light below the transom, each upper pane subdivided in 4. Pentice roof over kitchen window and door (to left); passage door under tiled, gabled, brick porch. 2 and 3-light casement windows to rear, mostly C19, 1 with leaded panes and coloured glass. Interior: hall with ceiling beam, chamfered, ovolo moulding with fillet and scroll stops. Roof: 3 C17 trusses, morticed and pegged at apex, collars notched and lapped, the purlins and ridge-piece threaded.
