Details

STOKE CANON CHESTNUT CRESCENT SX 99 NW 3/43 Joan Dewdneys, No. 15 14.10.80. - II House. C17 with later alterations. Cob, rendered, on stone plinth, with hipped thatched roof. 2 storeys throughout. Originally a 3 room, cross passage plan. 4 window range: ground floor casements C20, upper windows with early C19 3-light timber casements, 6 panes per light. Main door right of centre marks original entrance to cross passage, with service room to right with large external end stack, and higher rooms to left. Extreme left-hand doorway leads into C20 extension containing present stairs. Large external double stack to rear to heat hall and inner room with upper stage in C20 brick. Single chamfered beam to hall, and a change in ceiling level that suggests late floor insertion. Some wide floorboards on upper floor. Roof: 6 bays, principals and collars, side-pegged and halved, all clean and look like a C19 re-roofing. 2 later sloping buttresses to rear.
