The Wheatsheaf PH (No. 92)
GV II
House. C17, C19. Timber framed, plaster rendered and plain tiled roof at two
ridge levels. Ridge stack. Later rear range to Church Lane forms an L-plan
with baffle entry to the front. Two storeys. Two flush frame eight pane hung
sashes at first floor. The ground floor windows are later but possibly in
original openings and flank a doorway with C19 moulded architrave and narrow
hood on shaped brackets. The bay to the east was possibly originally a
service end. The rear range replaces earlier wing. C19 timber-framed,
rendered and slate roof. Two storeys. Interior: has inglenook hearth with
settles to each side and a C17 ovolo moulding to the main beam. The C19 part
is cellared. A public house is recorded here in 1798.
