Details
BARTLOW DEAN ROAD TL 5845 (East Side) 17/38 Nos. 1 and 2 22.11.67 Maltings Cottage (formerly listed as No. 1 Malting Cottage, No. 2 Malting Cottage, Post office; cottage adjoining Post Office to south) II House, now two dwellings and a shop. C16. Timber-frame, plaster rendered and pargetted and tiled roof, hipped at south end. Ridge stack of grouped shafts set diagonally and later projecting stack at south end. Single range in four bays. Two storeys with first floor jettied on side to road, the jetty beam carried on curved brackets. Five first floor windows including two C18 leaded light casements. Three ground floor double hung sashes with glazing bars and three doorways including house doorway with six raised and fielded panelled door. Inside: Braced tie beams and centre room with close set studwork, sealed back to back inglenooks partly curtailed. Quartered ceiling beams with moulded joists, laid flat, and main beams.
