SD 82 SE BACUP TODMORDEN ROAD

13/70 Nos. 164 and 166 - GV II

Pair of-cottages, or possibly originally one cottage, later C18, now one dwelling. Coursed thin sandstone rubble, stone slate roof with a brick chimney on the ridge and another at the left gable. Single pile, two bays, 2 storeys, with plain doorway at right end, blocked former doorway to right side of 1st bay, 2 coupled sashed windows at ground floor (presumably later alterations), stepped 5-light windows above, the middle lights sashed. Rear wall rendered, a boarded door to the 2nd bay, one square window at ground floor and 2 at 1st floor, that to the 1st bay with 16 small panes; 1st bay also has single-storey rear extension with monopitched roof, and a blocked doorway. Vertical joint between No. 166 and No. 168 to right (q.v.). Probably used for domestic weaving. Listed for group value only.
