EAST ALLINGTON EAST ALLINGTON SX74NE Churchyard Wall 4/47 Gate-piers and gates east of Church of St Andrew

GV II

Churchyard wall, gate-pairs and gates. Probably C18 or C19 wall, the gate- piers probably mid C19 and coeval with the gates which are dated 1848. Slate rubble retaining wall to churchyard which is at higher level than the road outside. The gateway towards the left hand (south) end has 2 tall dressed slate rubble gate-piers with flat slate caps and a wrought-iron overthrow with pullies to raise and lower the lamp which is missing. Pair of cast-iron gates, the top rail is ramped up to the stiles and the shafts have fleur-de-lis heads over the top and mid rails. The lock plate is cast- iron and inscribed "1848 Revd H R Fortescue Rector".
