House. Early-mid C19. Roughcast, with sandstone ashlar dressings, Westmorland slate roofs. Deep 2-storey main range with lower service range attached to rear. South front: 2 bays. Ashlar plinth and quoin strips. Ground floor: to left, part-glazed 4-panel door below overlight with cast- iron decorative tracery, in architrave, with Roman Doric doorcase of engaged columns carrying frieze and cornice with blocking; to right, square single- storey bay with paired 15-pane sash windows in ashlar surround with flat- faced mullion. First floor: 9-pane unequally-hung sash windows with ashlar sills. Moulded cornice, parapet. Hipped roof. Central ashlar stack. Right return: 2:3 bays. Ashlar plinth and quoin strips to both sections. Main range, to left, ground floor: tripartite sash windows in quoined surrounds. First floor: 9-pane unequally-hung sash windows in ashlar surrounds. Moulded cornice, parapet. Service range, set back on right: ashlar plinth and quoin strips. Left bay masked by projecting single-storey bay with 20-pane sash window and parapet with urns; to right 2 sash windows with glazing bars in architraves. First floor: 9-pane unequally-hung sash windows in architraves. Ashlar end stacks. Left return: 4-bay service range projects from main range, with pent-roofed single-storey bay in angle, and above it a lead rainwater head and part of pipe. Interior: period features survive except for fireplaces and main staircase. Doors of 6 reeded panels. Cornices, and central circular ceiling panels with sunflowers. Window shutters. In 2 main rooms, both halves of sash windows can be pushed up into wall cavity to gain access to garden. Staircase in service range with stick balusters.
