8/83 Farm building dated 1632 approximately 20 metres east of Holgate Farmhouse (formerly listed as barn 4.2.69 to east of house (formerly farmhouse) Holgate Farm))
GV II
House, now cow byre. Dated 1632, with later extensions and alterations. Coursed watershot sandstone rubble, stone slate roof. 2 storeys, 1:2 bays. Original house to right: quoins; central board door in chamfered quoined ashlar surround with lintel with triangular soffit and inscription " RW " 1632 . On each floor on either side a window opening, that on ground floor to right made into a doorway, shaped kneeler and ashlar coping to right gable; ashlar end stacks. Mid-late C18 addition to left: stable door to right on ground floor, window on first floor. Shaped kneeler and ashlar coping to left gable. Single-storey outbuilding to right not of special interest. Interior: mid-late C18 ashlar fire surround in ground-floor room to left; scar of spiral staircase in rear angle behind it; collared roof trusses over house.
