Cow byre and hay barn. Probably early C19. Probably for John Hutton.
Rubble, stone slate roofs. T-shaped plan, 2 storeys, 5-bay south-east
range, 3-bay rear wing. Quoins. South-east elevation: central pointed-
arched barn opening with blind ashlar quatrefoil above, and on ground floor
on each side 2 pointed-arched doorways with board doors and fragments of
crude Gothick tracery in fanlights above, and with 2 vents (blocked to left)
in between; 1:2:2:2:2:1 slit vents on first floor; castellated parapet to
left, ashlar coping to right. Rear of wing: pointed-arched barn opening
with ashlar quatrefoil above, flanked by a slit vent on each floor;
castellated gable. Left and right returns of rear wing: pointed-arched
opening with recessed blocking flanked by 2 ground-floor and 3 first-floor
slit vents. Interior: king-post roof trusses. The building is an unusually
large agricultural building in the area, and is so situated as to form a
prominent landmark.
