WEST KNOYLE THE STREET ST 83 SE (west side) 8/178 Manor Farmhouse GV II
Farmhouse. C16, altered late C17 and C19. Coursed rubble stone, asbestos slate roof, brick stacks. T-plan. Two-storey, 3-window east front. Door with 6 fielded panels in Tudor-arched doorway with carved spandrels and flat wooden hood, square bay with 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement to left, 3-light leaded casement and planked door to right. First floor has two 3-light casements. Attached to right is early C19 barn and stable with double doors and top-opening casements, reset late Medieval datestone. Wing to left has 2-light and 3-light casements, blocked segmental cellar window, south side of wing has 4-panelled door in cast-iron tent porch. Front to left has 3-light casements. Rear has C19 canted bay with 4-pane sashes and 2-light casement to right, blocked Tudor-arched doorway, 3-light recessed chamfered mullioned casement and C20 glazed porch to left, first floor has three 3-light leaded or wooden casements, 4-light and single- lights. Left return has datestone with deeply carved lettering and date 1555. Interior has mainly C17 fittings; recessed moulded panelling to stairs, moulded plank and muntin partition encasing cellar stairs in wing, cupboards with butterfly hinges below stairs and beside partly blocked open fireplace in south room. Joinery includes doors with 2 or 6 fielded panels. The datestones and other fittings may have been reset here from the Manor House of the Willoughby family, formerly in field to north of church and demolished 1745. (M.W. Mitchell, West Knoyle, 1978)
