Details
DURNFORD SALTERTON SU 13 NW 8/139 Salterton House
II House. Late C17-early C18, early C19 service wing and extensions of c1964. Flint and greensand nodules, with limestone dressings. Tiled roof. Two storeys attic and cellar. Five bays main block facing north, with 2-bay rear wing, extended mid C20. Chamfered sill. Central C19-C20 doorcase and glazed doors in Bath stone, with pilasters, keystone and broken pediment clasping an urn. Inner bays have 12-paned sashes with circular window to first floor over, inserted C20. Outer bays have 12-paned sashes to both floors, all with stone moulded surrounds. Cogged brick eaves. Roof hipped, with two hipped dormers, and one each to end gables. Major brick stack in fourth bay. Rear wings added C19, using limestone instead of greensand. Similar moulded window openings in Bath stone, and panelled external shutters. Interior has stair with turned balusters, probably C19.
