On both sides, early C19 parapets terminating in circular capstan-like bollards, all with horizontal tooling. According to Leland, the bridge was built before 1436 by Alwyne, rector of Wensley. It was widened in 1818. Scheduled as an Ancient Monument. Bulmer, History, Topography and Directory of North Yorkshire (1890), p. 619.
