Nos 1 and 2, Tudor Cottages
II
Two cottages in row. C16-C17 and c1930. Timber framed with
whitewashed brick noggings mostly replacing wattle and daub.
Thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 3 bays, with fourth bay on
left added c1930 to form second cottage, No 1, in the end two bays.
Heavy framing, 3 panels high, with straight corner braces.
Entrance to No 2 in porch to central bay. Panelled door under
thatched porch. C20 timber casement windows, with 1 flush dormer
to each bay, that to central bay framed, with slightly jettied
gable with marks of former oriel on soffit. No 1 has rustic
thatched porch and paned windows. Main stack now on party wall,
and gable stack to addition. Thatch swept down over weatherboarded
lean-to to right gable of No 2 and over lean-to at rear.
Interior: Centre bay has stone stack with timber fire lintel on
brick jambs. Chamfered spine beams to all rooms.
