Commercial building, on corner of Manor Road. Late C19. Painted rendering, bitumenised Welsh slate roof. A vigorous commercial design with high townscape value and well considered corner. Front to the square is in two storeys articu- lated with pilasters at ground floor and attached columns in Corinthianesque to upper floor, blocking course and parapet, all returned into Manor Road. Ground floor has 3-light plate glass windows with slender cast-iron colonnettes to basket-handle heads, flanking deep recessed glazed double doors to overlight; four pilasters carrying frieze concealed by C20 fascias. Far right further pair glazed doors and overlight. Upper floor has two 3-light arched plate glass windows with dividing colonnettes to cill on heavy brackets, arches with projec- ting keystones, central blank panel with sunk surround; 4 columns carry moulded dentilled cornice, projecting at column capitals. Return, left, similar detail, with 2-light and 1-light shop window with 3 pilasters and moulded plinth. Under 1+1+2-light arched openings with column articulation as front. Coped gable to left. Quadrant corner has lofty sunk panel to shouldered arched head and foot at lower level. In Manor Road, stretching to left, simpler wing with plain tile, in two units; first part with blocked shop window under two 3-light case- ments in moulded jambs and cornice; further left at first floor two 3-light as first section. Both parts have broad plain bands corresponding to column podia in main section. Interior much modified, but includes lofty quatre-lobed iron 'Battey Langley' gothic column. A coherent and positive statement little altered externally.
