ST 8032-8132 MERE CHURCH STREET (north side)

6/29 Tower View, St Michael's 6.1.66 Cottage and Stower Cottage

GV II

Four cottages in a row, now three. Early C19. Coursed and squared stone, large flush quoins far right, slate roof, brick stacks. Two storeys, 1+2+2 windows. Far left are 16-pane sash in what appears to have been an added bay, under hipped end; all others are 2-light small-pane glazing bar casements to flush voussoirs. Doors: between bays 1 and 2, plank; between bays 3 and 4, two doors, one a C20 with built-in 'fanlight', the other, plank; extreme right, C20 part glazed two large square brick ridge stacks. These modest cottages, important to maintenance of the character of the surround to the church, have a stone plinth of 2 courses, and probably replace an earlier building.
