II

Farmhouse. Mid C17. Rubble stone, cedar shingled roof, formerly thatched, brick stacks. U-plan with entrance in narrow centre courtyard on west. Two-storey, 1-window front in courtyard; C20 door in Tudor-arched stone surround, 2-light casement over. Wings either side each have 4-light hollow- chamfered mullioned casements facing courtyard, left side blocked together with first floor windows. Gable end of north wing has 3- light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement to ground floor and single chamfered light to attic, left return of this wing has two 4-light mullioned casements to ground floor and three C20 casements to first floor, gable end of main range has pointed lancet to attic. Right return of south wing has 3-light mullioned casement and C20 French windows to ground floor, 2-light mullioned casements to first floor. Rear of main range has C20 door, 3-light and 4- light mullioned casements and leaded casements to first-floor. Interior has deeply chamfered beams with stepped stops, open fireplace in north wing has Tudor-arched chamfered lintel on chamfered stone jambs. First floor fireplace with elliptical- headed chamfered stone surround. Main range has 4-bay roof with cambered collars to tie-beam and collar trusses, wattle and daub partition. A freehold farm known as Upper Linley until c1900 when name changed to Cool's after the name of the freeholder.
