MATTERDALE MATTERDALE END NY 32 SE 5/160 Crows Nest and outbuilding 6.10.82

- II House and outbuilding. Probably early C18. Roughcast stone with slate roof. 2 storeys, 4 bays, with outbuilding of one bay to right. Varied fenestration; 1st bay of ground floor has sashed window with glazing bars, dripstone, possibly to earlier door or window above; 2nd bay has horizontally sliding sash with glazing bars, 3rd bay has fire window. 1st floor has windows with small-paned fixed glazing to 1st 2 bays, that to 2nd bay with pivoted upper part; window to 3rd bay has metal casement, that to 4th bay has sash with single glazing bars and horns. Entrance between 1st and 2nd bays have plank door, half metal cog over; entrance to 4th bay has half-glazed door. Stone cross-axial stack to 3rd bay has base and cornice. Outbuilding has plain entrance with timber lintel and small light to 1st floor; return has entrance at 1st floor level due to slope of ground, formerly a large entrance. Rear built into slope of ground. Interior not inspected, said to have features of interest.
