Details
ST4717 STOKE SUB HAMDON CP WEST STREET (North side) 6/337 Stoke sub Hamdon Church Hall - GV II Church Hall, formerly Church Sunday School. 1831. Ham stone coursed rubble, ashlar dressings; Welsh slate roof between stepped coped gables; octagonal stone chimney stacks with moulded caps to each end. Single- storey, 5 bays. Shallow chamfer-mullioned 2-light windows with labels, the lights 4-centre arched with rectangular leaded panes, bays 1, 2, 4 and 5: to bay 3 a chamfered cambered-arched doorway under label, with incised spandrils; above a label stone incised 'Church School', then a clockface. Interior not seen. Room built on site of the village pound for the Sunday School in 1831: it is not known when this use ceased. (VCH vol III, 1974).
