MARSHFIELD C.P. HAY STREET (south side) ST 7873 14/68 Barn, 25 yards to north of 17.9.52 Home Farmhouse G.V.

Barn. C17 or early C18 coursed squared rubble; Cotswold stone slate roof with coped raised verges and saddle stones. Slit vents of freestone, internal embrasures. Projecting gabled porch to north, square headed entry to south. Regular putlogs and buttresses to north; ventilation holes to end gables. Two C19 cart entries to south. 3 reset carved heads in west gable (from the parish church). Interior: 13 bays, tie and collar beam trusses, some with struts. An unusual but well designed and detailed example of the Cotswold barn, relatively intact and unaltered. Thought to have been a tithe barn; may well incorporate fabric from an earlier structure.
