Farmhouse and attached farm buildings forming inner courtyard. Early - mid C17,
dated 1725/IS on fireback, later alterations, including mainly C19 windows.
Sandstone rubble, pantiled roofs with raised coped verges and kneelers, 2 ridge
stacks and gable stacks in stone, some single Roman tiles to outbuildings.
Through passage plan. 2 1/2 storeys, front has 3 gables and asymmetrical
fenestration, all 3-light casements with timber lintels, iron stanchions and
relieving arches at ground and first floor; gables to right and left have
2 windows at ground floor, one at first and 2nd, central bay similar with gabled
porch to left, cambered, chamfered lintel to outer opening, framed and studded
door with strap hinges in moulded and stopped frame, benches to sides. Left
return has wide, stepped external stack, to right 2-light casement at ground
floor and C20 2-light window at first floor, both with segmental head; attached
to left, a lower 2-storey wing has 2 C20 windows, lower single storey outhouse
with door attached to left. Right return has similar external stack, attached
to right a single storey open-fronted shelter shed with 5 openings to eaves
height. Rear has 3 gables as on front, former window first floor left blocked,
single storey lean-to below; central bay has stair tower with pitched roof
rising to full height of gable, with half-glazed door, first floor 3-light
casement with wooden ovolo mullions and hood mould; wing to right has on inner
side a door with strap hinges and single C20 light, C20 3-light raking dormer,
lower wing has door with strap hinges and 4-pane light, corrugated plastic covered
area along rear wing; inner side of shelter shed to left has door. Attached to
shelter shed and forming rear of courtyard, it storey building, possibly former
bakehouse, has door with strap hinges and 3-light casement with wooden ovolo
mullions, remains of brick gable stack; attached to left, rubble curtain wall
about 3 metres high and 4 metres long enclosing courtyard, with 2 doors; outside
curtain wall, lower rear wing to right has door and 2-light casement, external
stair to loading door in gable end and further lower attached outbuilding with
C20 garage doors in gable end; outer side of bakehouse has C20 3-light casement
and single storey flat-roofed addition. Interior: narrow through passage has
deep-chamfered beam to left, carrying weight of upper fireplace, door to right
and left with moulded and stopped frame; room to left has chamfered and stopped
beams, similar wide lintel to fireplace, fireback dated 1725, spice cupboard to
right with C19 door and re-used butterfly hinges, probably original dresser with
shaped shelves, door with strap hinges and ventilation hole. Stair tower has
newel stair, treads of later reconstruction. Rest of interior not accessible.
