3/209 Moat House Farmhouse
- II
Farmhouse. Mid C17, probably c.1640's, remodelled mid - late c19. Rendered; tiled roof; brick stacks. 2 storeys, attics and basement to rear. 3 bays: C20 3-light casement windows; 4-light casement on west gable end with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds. Central plank door; gabled projecting porch with arched doorway and fretted bargeboard. Rear stair tower. Sundial re-set on south- east corner with a 1640's date inscribed. Rear wing: rubble with a double Roman tiled roof; 2 storeys; 2-light casement windows under segmental heads, the north gable end has a 3-light casement with ovolo moulded mullions and surrounds, and under a relieving arch; the west elevation has a large projecting stack with off-sets. Interior. Newel stair; the door on the first floor is studded and has strap hinges with open scroll ends. Rear wing: chamfered lintel to fireplace and chamfered beams. The present building probably occupies a much older site and is partly surrounded by a moat.
