8/56 Old Church Farmhouse

Farmhouse, now hotel. Late C16, dated 1634 over front door, with later additions. Rubble, limestone ashlar and dressings, pantiled roof with stacks to centre and west with ashlar diagonals. L-plan. 2 storeys, central porch with Ionic pilasters. and pedimint with shield in tympanum, 4-centred arched door with studs and strap hinges in moulded architrave, 6-light ovolo,mullion and transom window with relieving arch to each side and similar window above with hood mould. C19 wing to east, 2 storeys and 2 windows, all C19 with relieving arch at ground floor and studded door under timber lintel, 2 storey wing to west, 4 x 2 windows, all C19 mullion and transom casements, ground floor has moulded door architrave, now blocked and continuing 3-light ovolo mullioned casement, gable end of east wing has 12-light ovolo mullion and transom window at ground and 1st floor with C19 panelled and glass door set in. Rear has 2 storeys and 4 windows, all as on entrance front, central 1st floor oval bull's eye in moulded surround and Clg inserted door with drip mould. Interior: closed string stair has twisted balusters and square topped newels, 2 rear rooms have late C16 plaster ceilings and frieze with Tudor rose and pelicans, masks and shells, centre rear panelled room has Tudor-arched stone fireplace with decorative frieze with putto, scrolled brackets and dentilled cornice.
