8/199 Downthorn's Farmhouse II

Farmhouse. Circa early C18 extended in C19 and with C20 alterations. Coursed limestone rubble. Slate mansard roof over main range with stone coped gable ends with ashlar stacks with cornices. Lower asbestos mansard roof over wing to left and stone tile roof over extension on left end with stone gable end stacks. Plan: 2 room plan main range with central winder stairs, both rooms heated from gable end stacks; one-room plan service wing on left and C19 one- room plan extension on left end of service wing with an outshut at the back. Exterior: 2 storeys, attic and cellar. Main range with asymmetrical 3-window south front. C20 2-light casements, ground floor with hoodmoulds; doorway to right of centre now a window. Large C20 porch to left of centre. Two C20 flat roof dormers. One storey and attic, 1-window service wing to left and 2 storey 1-window extension on left end with 2-light casement windows. Rear of main range three 2-light stone mullion windows on first floor, 2 are ovolo-moulded, that on right is cyma-moulded. Small single light ovolo-moulded stone window on ground floor to right of centre, blocked doorway to its right and casement to left with hoodmould. C20 and C19 outshuts on right against service wing. Interior: Left hand room has chamfered stone fireplace. Winder staircase boxed in at centre of house. On first floor a fielded 4-panel door and plank doors. Stone barrel-vaulted cellar under left hand room. Roof has lapped collars, clasped purlins and large common rafters.
