Linden House (formerly listed as The Rectory)

House, formerly a rectory. Early C18, reworked later C18. Earlier elevations
are in English bond with many vitrified bricks and red brick dressings. Front
elevation is of red brick laid in header bond. Hipped roofs, partly of clay
tiles, partly C20 tiles. Complex plan, possibly originally L-shaped, 2
storeys and attics. Front elevation: 5-bay facade, LH bay broader than
others. C19 canted bay to LH ground floor. Flush sashes with moulded frames
and glazing bars. Ground floor windows have gauged brick flat heads. Central
window apparently replaces doorway. 2 sky-lights to attic. LH side
elevation: uneven arrangement of windows. Mostly sashes, some retaining thick
glazing bars, ground floor ones with flat gauged brick heads. Part-glazed
door in moulded surround. Variety of brick chimney stacks. Interior: retains
early and later C18 pine panelling to 2 ground floor rooms and staircase and
pine fire surround to RH ground floor room.
