3/216 Ice house approx. 200 metres NW of Home Farmhouse

Ice house belonging to Wrest Park House. Early C19. Brick. A rather sophisticated example. Circular domed ice chamber is approximately 8.5 metres high and 4.5 metres in diameter, with ice chute to top. This is approached by a tunnel with 3 pairs of air-lock doorways and a rectangular storage room halfway along. The air-lock doors have since been removed. The entrance, set into a bank, is approached by 2 flights of steps from the road above. Beds. County Council, Industrial Archaeology in Bedfordshire, 1967, pp.22-23.
