Hampstead Cemetery

Obelisk. c1908. Granite. Obelisk, on rectangular moulded base,
with bottom panel of sculptured relief willow bough and sword,
inset inscribed panels to main shaft, capital with each face
having a high relief sculptured torch set in a laurel wreath
with foliar volutes, ovolo cornice and pyramidal cap.
HISTORICAL NOTE: Sir William Randal Cremer started work as a
carpenter and became a prominent trade unionist and pacifist.
Secretary of the International Arbitration League for 37
years. Opposed to class warfare, he resigned when the
committee declared for revolution. Awarded the Nobel Peace
Prize in 1903.
