1. THAXTED STONEY LANE (South Side) No. 4

2. Circa 1410, 3 storeyed town house, jettied at each floor, timber framed and plastered. The house is exposed to Stoney Lane. Red plain tile roof. Original cellars. Leaded casements, many in original openings, and some original tracerised window heads remain. Bow window to ground floor. Repaired C15 door. Carved jetty brackets have carved spandrels, formerly on pilasters, of which only the moulded capitals remain. Gabled to street. C16 red brick chimney stack. Internally the frame is exposed with stop chamfered beams, jowled storey posts, cambered tie beams and crown post roofs. Ground floor framing over cellar is original. Original four centred arches and some C15 or C16 vertical boarded doors. Original staircase with solid oak treads. (RCHM 10-12).
