12/178 Entrance screen to Startforth Hall
GV II
Entrance screen. Mid-C18, except for C19 upper parts of main piers and gates. Ashlar piers; squared stone quadrant walls with cut coping; wrought-iron gates. Rusticated gate piers, with chamfered plinth and later panelled block below moulded capital with cross-gabled top. Double gates with downswept top and arched lower rails, and lancehead uprights. Quadrant walls, with low gabled coping, have lower end piers with pyramidal caps.
