5/32 Cleatlam Hall 14.9.66 II

Small manor house. C17 with late C19 restoration. Sandstone rubble with dressed quoins; roofs of sandstone flags with ashlar stacks. U-plan; gabled cross wings. Mainly renewed windows with chamfered mullions under hoodmoulds. 2 storeys plus attics; 3-bay centre block has C20 door, under restored Tudor-arched head, to right; 4-light mullioned-and-transomed hall window and 2-light mullioned window to left. First floor has central 4-light mullioned-and-transomed window and flanking 2-light mullioned windows. Rebuilt one-bay cross wings have tooled- and-margined quoins;4-light mullioned-and-transomed windows to ground and first t floors and 2-light window set high in gable; gables have moulded copings, shaped kneelers and pyramidal finials. 2-storey, 3-bay left return has central C20 door, under restored Tudor-arched head,and several 2-light mullioned windows. 2-storey, 2-bay right return has four 12-pane sashes in raised surrounds. Rear has several 12-pane sashes. Centre block and cross wings have individual moderately-pitched roofs with slightly-projecting eaves; centre block has two corniced gable stacks.

Cottages attached to rear of left return not of special interest.
