Details
COTHERSTONE BALDERSDALE NY 91 NW 14/38 Mere Beck Farmhouse, byre and pigsty II Farmhouse, byre and pigsty. Farmhouse dated 1742 on door lintel; early-mid C19 farmbuildings. Squared rubble. Farmhouse and pigsty have stone-flagged roofs; byre has blue slate roof; stone chimney stacks. Farmhouse, with rear outshut, has byre and pigsty attached to right.
2-storey, irregular 3-bay farmhouse with tall plinth and flush quoins. Central replaced partly-glazed door, in flush surround with thin alternating jambs, has lintel inscribed: 17 IP 42. Blank bay above door. Flanking 16-pane sashes with flush sills and lintels. Roof has corniced end stacks with water tables.
Set-back 2-storey, narrow 2-bay byre with loft. Boarded door with square window opening to left and C20 8-pane fixed light above. Single-storey, 2-bay pigsty, attached to_right, has 2 boarded doors and a feeding chute to right. Monopitch roof to lower rear wall.
Rear of right return of byre has external stone stairway leading to first-floor boarded door.
Derelict, detached buildings, to left of farmhouse, are not of special interest.
