CORFE CASTLE THE SQUARE (North side) SY 96 82 7/124 The Greyhound Inn (formerly 20.11.59 listed as Greyhound Hotel GV II Inn, originally 2 houses. C17, altered in C18 - date stone on porch IC 1733. Colourwashed rubble stone walls with some brick repairs, stone slate roofs, brick end and centre stacks. 2 storeys and attics. The left house has a 2-storeyed projecting porch, open on ground floor, on 3 circular stone columns. Part-glazed door. Ground floor has 2 sashes with vertical glazing bars, under segmental arches. First floor has 2 similar sashes without arches. In each face of porch, on first floor, a sash with vertical glazing bar. Fire Insurance plaque on porch. Attic has 2 gabled dormers with casements with centre horizontal bar. The right house has a 2-storeyed projection at the right end - this also originally open on ground floor - now infilled, with a part-glazed door under flat hood on shaped brackets in left side wall. In front wall, ground floor has -one sash with vertical glazing bars. Blocked window over. In main part of this house, ground floor has two 2-light sashes with vertical glazing bars. 2 similar sashes on first floor. Attic has 2 gabled dormers with casements with centre horizontal glazing bar. Internally, some exposed ceiling beams. (RCHM, Monument 15. Dorset. Vol. II).
