Details

CORFE CASTLE WEST STREET, KINGSTON SY 95 79 (North side) 6/185 Nos. 16 (Post office and Stores) and 18 GV II Pair of houses, part used as shop. Probably mid-C19. Coursed rubble stone walls, stone slate roofs. Ashlar stacks with moulded caps - one later brick stack at rear. One storey and attic. 2 projecting gabled wings. No. 16 consists of centre section and right projecting wing. In centre section, ledged door under stone slate pentice on shaped timber brackets. Ground floor has one casement with centre horizontal glazing bar under flat vermiculated stone arch. Attic has one gabled dormer with similar casement. In right gable, ground floor has a canted bay shop window with similar casements, under hipped stone slate roof with moulded timber cornice. Attic has one similar casement under flat vermiculated stone arch. Shop entrance in right end wall, under open timber porch with stone slate roof. No. 18 has, in left gable, one casement with horizontal centre bar under flat vermiculated stone arch on each floor. Left of the gable a range parallel to road has a ledged door under stone slate pentice on timber brackets. Included for group value.
