KIMBLESWORTH STANK LANE NZ 24 NE (West end) 2/27 Cottage and stables circa 100 metres west of Kimblesworth Grange farmhouse GV II

Cottage and stables, now storage space and garages. Late C18/early C19. Thinly-rendered sandstone rubble, with some large square blocks possibly reused, with quoins and ashlar and brick dressings; Welsh slate roof with brick chimneys. 2 storeys, 7 bays. 3-bay house at left has boarded central door and 3-pane overlight under flat stone lintel; similar lintels over flanking sash windows, the left renewed with 9 panes, the right a 16-pane sash. First-floor windows have wood lintels at eaves, 4-pane sashes at left and centre, and horizontal sliding sash with glazing bars at right. Stables have 2 pairs of boarded vehicle doors at left; flat stone lintel over blocked door in sixth bay; wood lintel over small square window at right; renewed glazing bars in 3 fixed lights above, which have segmental brick arches, and in fourth window with wood lintel. All sills project. Roof of 2 pitches, that over stables lower, has red brick chimney at left end, yellow brick chimney at right of third bay, and yellow brick chimney at right end. Right gable of house higher than roofing material. Left return shows some large blocks of stone; triangular stones form edges of both return gables. Rear shows catslide roof of 2 pitches over one-storey outshuts to house, each pitch extending across half of house. Stables have vent slits on first floor. Interior of house shows cast-iron kitchen range, with founder's mark 'Brumell Newcastle' on round-doored oven and over fire, and initials TE over door.
