3/90 Nos. 44 and 45, Wood House 27-9-72 GV II

Pair of cottages, originally one house. Early-mid C17. Rubble stone walls, colour washed at front. Thatched roofs, brick stacks at left end and along ridge. One storey and attics. No. 44 has 2 large raking buttresses on front wall. Pair of French doors. Ground floor has one casement window and one horizontally sliding sash window, both with glazing bars, and one plain casement. Attic has one dormer with casements with centre glazing bar. Internally, main ground floor room has large open fireplace with timber lintol. Some exposed chamfered ceiling beams. No. 45 has buttress near left end. Ledged door. Ground floor has 2 casement windows with centre glazing bar. Attic has one dormer with similar casements. Internally, main ground floor room has large open fireplace with timber lintol and remains of bread oven. Some deep chamfered ceiling beams. Roof structure appears original. A National Trust property. RCHM Monument 22. (Dorset, Vol II.)
