Details
CORFE CASTLE EAST STREET (West side) SY 96 82 7/48 No 2 (Boar Mill) (formerly listed as Old Mill and Bakery) 20.11.59 GV II House with attached former watermill. Mill C18, house part late C18, part early C19. Rubble stone walls, roofs part stone slate, part tiled with stone eaves courses. 2 brick stacks and one stone stack. Irregular L-shaped plan. At left end a single storey range - former stables etc., with stone slate roof. Ledged door in reduced opening. Two C20 casements with lead lights. Right of this the former bakery house of 2 storeys with tiled roof. Battened door under segmental brick arch. Ground floor has 2 C20 casements with lead lights under similar arches. First floor has 2 similar windows, with fanlights - no arches. Large bake oven in ground floor room. Right of this, the former mill house, with stone slate roof. 2 storeys. Battened door. Ground floor has one C20 casement with lead lights. First floor has one similar window, with fanlight. Right of this the mill projects as a gabled wing. 2-storey and attic. In the angle between mill and house a shuttered window set diagonally under stone slate pentice rcof. In left flank wall of mill a stable door on ground floor and loft door over. In end gable wall a small blocked window in attic. Various rear lean-tos including large bake oven at rear of house. Mill machinery largely intact. Sluices east of the mill. Picturesque group at base of Castle mound. (RCHM, Monument 27. Dorset. Vol. II. Dorset Watermill Survey).
