Large country house, now offices and training college. 1930 by WE Lord for Sir Hugo Cunliffe-Owen. Painted render. Rectangular plan with central staircase hall. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys. Sash windows with glazing bars with floating cornices on ground floor and moulded architraves on first floor. Moulded cornice to parapet. Entrance (west) front: symmetrical. 11 bays. Slightly projecting central feature, 3 bays. Giant columns supporting entablature and pediment of the Ionic order. Doric pilasters at corners and 4th and 8th bays. Panelled double entrance doors. Coat of arms in tympanum. INTERIOR: staircase hall: 2 storeys with quadripartite bossed roof. One side of ground floor taken up by Imperial staircase with plain open iron baluster at foot; stone balustrading pierced with foliated roundels on upper levels. Other rooms have marble fireplaces and enriched ceiling cornices.
