Details

ICEN WAY 1. 5l91 (East Side) Hardye's School Craft Centre SY 6990 7/251 II 2. 1910. Rendered. Hipped slate roof. Brick stacks. 2 storeys. Right hand part has 2 ranges of sashes with glazing bars, and horizontally rusticated quoins. Windows have continuous moulded sills, and there is a continuous stringcourse at impost level of ground floor. Ground floor windows have rusticated surrounds and aprons. 1st floor windows have scrolled architraves and idiosyncratic dentilled cornices which break upwards in a very slight segmental curve to triple keystones. 3 blank cartouches between stringcourse and 1st floor sill level. Left hand part is set back in concave chanelled recess. 2 slightly tapering pilasters with festoons at top flank a shaped gable with coping and all finial. Ground floor has double doors flanked by Ionic 3/4 columns taking plain frieze and cornice, all set within segmental arch with dentils, moulded extrados with scrolls and festoon below and triple keystone above: enriched spandrels. 1st floor has 4-light window on sill which runs from one buttress across to the other, and divided by 3 Ionic columns (with Tuscan responds) taking disproportionately huge entablature, with "Girls' School" on the frieze. Gable has cartouche with "1850-1910".
