OLD CHURCH ROAD
Old Holy Trinity Church 5-9-60 I Former Parish Church, now in the care of The Churches Conservation Trust. c.C14 and C15 Chancel and south tower. Nave demolished 1889. Coursed rubble stone walls and stone quoins. Stone slab roof and stone gable-copings, medieval at east end, C19 at west end. South Tower of 2-3 stages with a string above stage 2. Embattled parapet with gargoyles. One plain square-headed bell-opening on the east face, and west face. 2-light trefoil-cusped lights with panel tracery. Renewed label and mullion, C20. Short 2-stage buttresses. Windows: north wall of chancel, 2-light with ogival trefoil-cusped heads in a square head. East window blocked, presumably in C18. Label with head-stops survives. West doorway, pointed arch with continuous bracket-moulding, c.C14. Plank door, studded with 2 strap-hinges. Interior: large pointed arch inside the west wall, with a straight chamfer (former chancel arch?) 2-centred arch to the tower, plain, chamfered jambs with spur stops. Font: plain stone bowl, c.C13, on a C20 stem and base. Sanctuary rails and reredos, turned balusters with top rail ramped to the corners. Fluted pilaster posts at the corners. Wooden reredos with broken pediment, and gilded urn at centre, fluted pilasters and Composite capitals. Panelling beneath the pediment contains Lord's Prayer; Ten Commandments, and the Creed, c18. Roof: 3 bays of arch-braced collar construction, with one set of butted purlins. Internal measurements: c.21 foot x 10 it 6 inches. Tower measures 7 ft x 6 ft.
