ST 30 SE BROADWINDSOR BLACKDOWN 4-12-1951 3/21 Blackdown House, and former Dairy range
II
Large House in grounds. Late C17, datestone P.M.I. 1697 over south door, with Cl9 rebuilding, and extension of home to west. Dressed stone walls, with slate roofs hipped at right hand end. Cl9 extension is gabled to the south at left hand. One stone stack with cornice, on site of former left hand gable, and rendered stack at right hand eaves. 2 storeys. 5 windows to the original front (C17), south elevation. 2-light stone mullions (ovolos) with C20 metal casements set in with lead lights. Continuous label over ground floor and first floor,each returned. Gabled dormers of 2-lights, hollow-chamfered. Former front door with stone jambs and depressed arch in a square head. Stone pediment over, carried on volute brackets. Door has four fielded panels with a glass light over. Late C19 gabled wing at left hand has a 4-light stone mullion with a high cross-transom and returned label over. First floor, has one of 2-lights. West wall has Pinney crest of 3 cross-crosslets fitché with a gauntleted hand holding another over. Rear of home (present front entrance) of 2½ storeys, irregularly spaced windows of 2- and 4-lights (ovolos) with separate returned labels over. Front vestibule, in angle, C20. Rubble stone with stone jambs to door. Gabled-in brick range with slate roofs to former dairy. One inserted brick stack. Source: R.C.H.M. Dorset I, p 54(5).
