Details

LONG STREET 1. 1625 (South-East Side) Abbot's Litten ST 6316 1/154 28.11.50. II GV 2. Early C18, similar in detail to The Bank House but the ashlar masonry is rougher and the structure appears older. Two storey 6 window front. Now red tile roof. Moulded cornice with brackets. Main doorway of stone has half-round Tuscan pilasters, entablature with triglyphs and paterae and pediment. On left hand is second doorway with semi-circular head with carved stone head built into wall above it. Sash windows in flush frames; glazing bars intact. Inside, C18 panelling and fireplace surround. See R C H M Dorset Vol I p 220 for details.

Premises occupied by Mr Pearson, Rose Cottage, former Castle Hotel, The Bank House, premises occupied by The National Westminster Bank, Old Bank House, and Abbot's Litten form a group with the timber framed structure to the rear of No 87 Cheap Street.
