9/131 St Mary's Church Hall [formerly listed as 4.10.60 Church School (Girls) and School House]

G.V. II

Church Hall, originally school, dated 1817 with probably mid-C19 extension to left. Original range: squared, dressed stone, tiled roof with gable ends, no visible stacks, stone quoins. Single storey, 4 window range. 4 C19 wooden 4-pane sashes under segmental stone arches. Central tablet bearing inscription. Left addition: brick (Flemish bond with random flared headers), tiled roof with stone slates to verges, gable end with stone coping and brick kneeler. All windows under segmental brick arches. Central C19, 4-pane sash flanked by 6-pane casements (horizontally pivoting). C20 porch in intersection with earlier range. West gable has ashlar stone mullioned and transomed window of 3-lights with a square head and stone label. "RCHM, Dorset, Vol III", HMSO, 1970, p 279, no 26a.
