3/111 11/111 Shroton House 14-7-55 GV II
House, dated 'William Jeanes 1728' and 'William and Ann Jeanes 1736' with additions and alterations at various dates in the C18, C19 and C20. L-plan with infilling. Roughcast and Flemish bond brickwork. Slated and tiled roofs partially masked by parapet. Brick stacks in various locations. 2 storeys with attics and basements. South front of 7 bays with central 2-storey bow. To the right of this is a late C19 porch with flat roof and balustrade. 3 french doors to the left of the range. 12 pane sashes with glazing bars. An C18 lead downpipe has an ornate rainwater head with acanthus enrichment. The front has a giant order of Doric pilasters flanking the main features of the facade and marking its extremity. . Each pilaster bears an entablature. The east front was originally of 4 bays but the 2 to the south have had their fenestration blocked. Those to the right have their original segmentally headed, 12 pane sashes with thick glazing bars. Hipped dormers to the attic. Central basement plank door.
Internal features (RCHM): panelling of the C18 and C19; C18 staircase with open strings, scrolled spandrels, turned balusters and moulded handrails; C18 fireplaces and overmantels (RCHM, Dorset, vol III, p 128/9, no 4)
