CORNWORTHY SX85NW CORNWORTHY 6/69 Churchyard Walls, Mounting Block, and Gate-Posts to West and South West of Church of St Peter

GV II

Churchyard walls, mounting block, gates and gate-posts. The wall and mounting blocks are probably C18; the gate-posts and gates are circa mid C19. High slate rubble walls with pitched slate copping, the walls retain the churchyard which is at a much higher level than the road outside. The small mounting block on the outer west side of the wall is also slate rubble with 3 steps each with slate treads, the slate of the lower tread is missing. The gateway at the west end of the churchyard has mid C19 granite monolithic gate-posts with pyramided tops and cast-iron gates with fleur- de-lis finials to the shafts. The lock plates are inscribed - "Lidstone, Kingsbridge". The lantern overthrow is probably late C19 or C20.
