House and attached row of 2 cottages on the Black Hall (qv) estate. Circa 1840-45 (not depicted on the Black Hall estate map of 1840). Roughcast stone rubble, first floor of Hollymount Cottages has been stripped of its plaster. Asbestos slate hipped roof; natural slate gable ended roof over Hollymount Cottages at the rear. Rendered axial stacks, and rendered stack at the left hand side of Hollymount. Plan: consists of a house (Hollymount) and a row of 2 cottages (Nos 1 and 2 Hollymount) attached at the back and facing a side lane to the right. Hollymount has a square double depth plan with a central entrance hall between 2 principal front rooms and probably service room behind. The row of cottages attached at right angles at the back and face the right; No 1 has its principal room to the left and an entrance passage to the right; No 2 at the end of the row has 2 principal rooms with an entrance between and both cottages have service rooms in an outshut behind. Exterior: 2 storeys. Hollymouth facing south has a symmetrical 3-bay front with original C19 16-pane sashes, the ground floor windows in round arch recesses. Central stuccoed porch with panelled pilasters, frieze and cornice with blocking course above raised at the centre; the C19 double doors are flush-panelled and glazed with margin panes; the C19 inner doors are also flush panelled and glazed. The 2 cottages at the back are in a rear wing, its right hand east-facing front it an asymmetrical 3-window range plus 2 windows to the left in the side elevation of Hollymount House. C19 12 and 16-pane sashes; 2 plank doors with 4-pane overlights and continuous C19 verandah with wooden latticework, arch- braces and slate roof partly replaced with corrugated iron. Interiors not inspected but are likely to have their original joinery. Including mid C19 garden area railings and gate in front of Hollymount House; iron spear-headed railings and turned standards with urn finials, set on granite ashlar garden retaining wall; gate at centre similar to railings, its posts the same as the standards.
