Details

LODDISWELL HATCH CROSS SX 74 NW 5/96 Lower Hatch Farmhouse (formerly listed as Lower 26.1.67 Hatch House) GV II Farmhouse, formerly an outbuilding. Mainly C19 or C20 but some C16 or C17 fabric. Rubble, slate roof. A small rectangular block with a low return wing to the right, the front has 2 plain C20 lights at eaves, and a smaller one slightly lower, all to left of C20 glazed door. The gable return to the left has a blocked loft door above a continuous moulded string or plinth course; below this a blocked opening with voussoirs, presumed to an undercroft or stone. To the left a curved boundary wall, connecting to the end gable wall of Hatch Arundell (q.v.), and containing an arched opening with chamfer, set to curve, formerly with door, now blocked. In the right end of the return block is a similar opening. A lofty rubble wall runs back from this opening, forming one side of a narrow lane/throughway flanked by the farm courtyard (q.v.).
